Municipal Park of Larnaka (Salina)

Architecture Competition, proposal

The area of the Salina Municipal Park is characterized by its direct correlation with the urban landscape of Larnaca, but also by its close proximity to private homes. This proposal is organized at different levels that are adapted to the existing topography of the plot and at the same time manages the dynamics of the area. The concept of “park” is approached through urban formations and connections, in balance with the characteristics of a public garden. Overall, the existing planting is enriched with green islets, which include trees and shrubby vegetation, making the area a lung of greenery and activity. In terms of design, the proposal seeks to connect the two listed buildings, in the southwestern part of the plot, with the areas of the park as well as with the areas of the Municipal Garden, at a future stage. On a larger scale, the park is part of a network of important areas of the city and the wider area, where one can even move on foot. In view of the now distinct effects of climate change on the planet and the exacerbation of phenomena due to the lack of strategic planning of the island’s cities, the proposal seeks to redefine public space with an environmental and ecological sign.
